I have a question about bartening in las vegas ?
I want to move to las vegas and become a bartender on the las vegas strip. How competative is it ? Someone with real experience or knowledge please ?

- I used to work in a Las Vegas casino( in the kitchen) and the bar-tending @ the casinos is extremely competitive! There are not many jobs like that, that people let go. It also really helps if you know somebody that already has a job in a casino. Las Vegas is just like anywhere else though, it does have joints were your not going to have a problem finding a job( liquor sales 24hrs a day). Just remember that when you get to Vegas and want to work for a casino, you will have to get a sheriffs card( and background check), and a Las Vegas food handlers card. I don't really remember how much they cost to get, but I'm pretty sure they are under $200 for both. One last thing- DON'T MOVE TO THE Las Vegas central areas, move to Henderson. Has all Vegas has 10 min away, a lot nicer area, and a lot less crime.
- Chef Mark is about right on ... but he forgot to tell you about the TAM card that you need in order to serve alcohol. It's the equivalent to a bartender's license in other states. Most bartender jobs on the strip are union, so you have to get in as a bar back first ... that's true for most places. Also, if you don't have gaming experience, it's difficult to find a job in a casino ... so it may be best to find a job bartending in a restaurant first, just so you can get Vegas experience. Some will say go to bartending school, but I don't know how fruitful that is, but if you have the $$ to spend, why not. Also, sign up at the union, they have classes there and you can find jobs that way, too.
